The Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura Patient Perspective Request for Proposals

The Answering TTP Foundation is pleased to announce intent to fund a Canadian idiopathic TTP patient perspective study to examine,

  • similarities and differences concerning TTP treatment, relapse and prevalence across the country;
  • the effects of treatment (short and long term);
  • patient decisions concerning treatment and follow-up (what choices are provided, if any);
  • patient education (what information is provided about the disease and its treatment upon diagnosis and going forward); and,
  • the long term effects of the disease.

The purpose of this study is to generate a published article (in a medical journal) describing a deeper understanding of the patient experience in Canada to inform physicians and to describe the need for the development of a Comprehensive Care model for TTP. This study may take the form of a quantitative and/or qualitative survey to be developed, disseminated, analyzed and submitted for publication by the successful applicant. The Foundation’s Board, and its Medical Advisory Board, will be asked to participate in the development of the survey by providing feedback on drafted questions. The Foundation is able to circulate the survey link to the over 350 Canadian registered Answering TTP Community members. Also, the link to the survey may be posted on the Foundation’s Facebook page and website.

Interested researchers are invited to submit a proposal for committee peer-review and recommendation to the Board of Directors. The budget should be less than $50,000. The deadline date for this special call for proposals is September 1, 2016.  Other than the deadline date, submission and guidelines must follow Answering TTP Foundation research grant program practice.  Student funding is permitted. Email Grants@AnsweringTTP.org to request grant guidelines and submission instructions.

Submission enquiries are welcomed to encourage potential applicants to understand the intended scope. For enquiries or direct submissions contact: Sydney Kodatsky, Answering TTP Foundation. Email: Grants@AnsweringTTP.org. Phone: 416-792-4656.
